In honor of the Hindustani Immigration Day on June 5th, Multicultural Working Group Ashna is hosting an event celebrating the strength and resistance of Hindustani indentured labourers. One of those laboureres, Janey Tetary, was the leader of the uprising at Plantage Zorg en Hoop in 1884. Despite her remarkable contribution to the history of the Hindustani community, few are familiar with her story. Author Radjinder Bhagwanbali will join this evening to talk about the struggle of Tetary and its meaning for Hindustani people today.
