Bonaire, zout en koloniale geschiedenis:
The island of Bonaire is now formally a Dutch municipality, but for centuries it was a Dutch colony. The history of the island has been closely connected with the history of the slave trade and for a very specific reason: salt. Almost every ship to Africa and/or the left Caribbean, had several tons of salt on board for drying and/or preserving food. Without salt there was no shipping possible and therefore no Transatlantic trade in people. The salt on Bonaire was produced in salt pans. During the period of slavery enslaved Africans were forced to work there. This book contains a systematic description of the history of Bonaire, salt and colonialism. This book is only available in Dutch.
